Aim:

The aim of the course is to meet the requirement in paragraph 5 of Section A-VI/2 which states that “seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 4 in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats shall be required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of Table A-VI/2-1.”


Objectives:

Upon completion of this training course, the trainee shall fulfill the requirements in Section A-VI/2 paragraphs 5 and 6 of the STCW Code.
In view of the acceptance of onboard training and experience as a means for maintaining the required standards of competence, seafarers must be able to demonstrate the following competences upon successful completion of this course:
• right an inverted life raft while wearing a lifejacket;
• start and operate an inboard engine fitted in an open or enclosed lifeboat; and
• use signalling equipment, including pyrotechnics


Target Audience:

This training program is open to all seafarers who are assigned to be in command of launching and operating life boats, survival crafts and rescue boats.


Prerequisites:

• Valid Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Survival Craft Rescue Boat (SCRB)
• Proof of approved seagoing service for a period of at least twelve (12) months in total during the preceding five (5) years, or three (3) months in total during the preceding six (6) months immediately prior to revalidating.
• Valid medical certificate (2 years)
